Well shock, tank & pipe sanitizing

|

Some people don’t know it, but part of water treatment involves sanitizing the piping, water tanks, and well. Often times putting a filter system on isn’t enough due to what’s already in the pipes. A sanitizing or ‘shock’ of all of the things that the water touches can allow the customer to start off with a clean slate. You won’t find a company in Reno Sparks that is more experienced and proficient at complete water solutions than we are. Just one more reason to choose the full service water treatment company, Truckee Meadows Water Systems.

What do you get when you fill a semi-transparent tank with warm, chlorine-free water and allow sunlight hit it for several hours per day?

You get 3,000 gallons of water that comes out a lovely shade of black.

Initially, we used plain old salt in order to dehydrate the algae and cause the larger chunks to break up in order to pump them out with a submersible trash pump.

As the water level drew down, a pressure washer was used to knock all of the growth off the walls of the tank in order to let the trash pump do most of the work.

Once the water level was low enough that the pump couldn’t work, our bravest technician Kevin climbed into the tank to scoop up the rest of the algae pudding.

Once we had the entire tank exposed, we used a hydrogen peroxide solution to sanitize every surface and began to run freshwater back into the tank.

The tank was left with a chlorine residual >10ppm free chlorine for a long contact chlorine shock that will also be drawn into the pipes downstream.  In the future a chlorine feeder will be used to maintain a residual chlorine in the tank that will be removed by a carbon tank before entering the home. Now that’s a complete water solution!

All in a day’s work for a full service water filtration company.
