So what is wrong with Northern Nevada’s water? There isn’t one easy answer because it depends on: your water source (tap water or one of the 30,000 private wells), if we’re in a drought (or flooding), and what your specific water demands are!
FOR INSTANCE:
Hard water – causes scale buildup that will ruin your home. If you just moved here from from an area with soft water like California, bought a brand new home and are used to “prestigious water”, you’ll recognize quickly that our hard water will ruin your home, your hair, your skin and everything else it comes in contact with.
If you are drawing from the Local water authority, you’ll notice that the chlorine levels are often higher than the local swimming pool! This causes eczema in children, dry hair, & skin. More importantly, the chlorine creates by-products like trihalomethanes and haloacetic acids that are carcinogenic!
Arsenic is our biggest concern because our region has the highest arsenic levels in the continental US. Most of our wells exceed the EPA limit of 10 parts per billion by 3 times! To make matters worse, you can’t see, taste, or smell arsenic.
If one lives in Verdi, Pleasant Valley, Washoe Valley, Palomino Valley, Fallon, Fernley, or anywhere they drink from a well, we implore them to get their water tested for arsenic.
